Colorado State University provides a unique setting for the study of forest and rangeland stewardship. The university is situated within easy access of five ecosystem types:
- alpine
- subalpine
- montane
- foothills
- shortgrass steppe
These sites provide students a wide variety of experiential learning opportunities. Field activities at the undergraduate level include:
- day-long field trips to nearby forests and grasslands
- a four week natural resources ecology and measurements field experience at the CSU Mountain Campus
- a two week long forestry field measurements course at the CSU Mountain Campus
- a week long rangeland assessment course
