If you’re ready to help build a more sustainable future, you’re in the right place!
The Ecosystem Science and Sustainability major prepares students to tackle real-world environmental challenges through a powerful mix of ecological science and interdisciplinary problem-solving. Students gain both the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to drive sustainable change at every scale.
This major equips students with the tools, strategies, and connections to address some of the world’s most pressing issues—including sustainable ecosystem management, climate change adaptation, environmental policy development, and ecological research, among others. The curriculum combines a strong foundation in ecosystem ecology with critical insights into the cultural, social, economic, and political forces that shape sustainability.
As the demand grows for professionals who can manage natural resources for the benefit of both people and the planet, the ESS program ensures students are ready. Students learn to apply the latest science to real-world decision making and gain valuable experience through ESS’s partnership with CSU’s world-renowned Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory—home to more than 45 years of global ecosystem research.
