Q&A with James:

What motivated you to pursue an online degree program, and why did you choose CSU and this specific program?

Although my primary background was in the sciences and policy side of the environment, I’ve always had a passion for communications, and through my professional experiences, seen how valuable it is to be a well-rounded communicator.  It was essential for me to find a program that allowed me to continue working full-time and one that provided a diverse learning experience, both of which the C4C program offered.

Can you describe your overall experience with online learning? What was it like interacting with your instructors and peers?

Admittedly, I was nervous about a full online environment, but my instructors and peers made the virtual learning experience seamless and provided engaging and thoughtful discourse that resembled much of my in-person learning experiences.

How did the program align with your career goals and how have you been able to apply what you learned in your current job?

Being an effective communicator is one of the most important attributes that someone can bring to the professional table, regardless of their specific career. Working in an environmental non-profit, as a member of the program’s staff, I utilize the skills I learned through the C4C program daily. From the complex nuances of communications theory that help solve stakeholder issues, to strategies for effective marketing and media relations that elevate organizational awareness, this program will prepare you for almost any task an employer will throw your way.

What advice would you give to prospective students considering this program, based on your own experiences and insights?

Go for it! The online CSU community is incredible and the skills and relationships you will walk away with will benefit you for the rest your professional journey.

Do you have anything additional about the program or your time studying online at CSU that you’d like to share?

I would just like to express my gratitude to my fellow students and instructors. The true value of any program is tied to the thoughtful conversations you have both in class and out, and there was no shortage of that during my time with CSU. Go Rams!
