About John

I am a structural geologist interested in a wide range of research topics, including shear zones and strain localization, large-magnitude extension and the development of metamorphic core complexes, strike-slip deformation during oblique convergence/divergence, and the Mesozoic to recent tectonic evolution of western United States. My research is field-oriented and typically involves geologic mapping and/or field-based structural analysis, and I also incorporate microstructural analysis to evaluate strain and deformation conditions and geo/thermochronology to constrain timing and rates of deformation.
