About Ed

I am a wildlife biologist with diverse interests and experience over my 30+ year professional career. I teach four courses as part of the FWCB Department’s Master C and Certificate Programs. I also serve as the Chief Executive Officer of The Wildlife Society and host the public television conservation series This American Land. Although my research days are essentially in the rear view mirror, my interests and focus for more than 20 years were on forestry and wildlife relationships, energy and wildlife relationships – notably wind energy impacts on bats and other wildlife, and large mammal and bird habitat management and response to disturbance. More recently, I have interfaced science and policy with multiple non-governmental organizations and worked extensively on legislation and administrative policy on greater sage grouse conservation, large ungulate migration, energy policy, and conservation funding. In both my roles at CSU and The Wildlife Society, I am heavily engaged in student and early-career professional development.
