Experiential learning opportunities the agency provides for undergraduate students include the CSFS Internship Program, volunteering at the CSFS Seedling Nursery in Fort Collins, and job shadowing opportunities across all CSFS units. Information on how to become involved in these opportunities, as well as the current permanent and seasonal job openings at the agency, can be found on the CSFS Employment Website.
The CSFS Internship Program offers paid summer internships each summer to undergraduate students pursuing forestry and natural resource degrees at Colorado institutions of higher education. These positions generally run from May to August each year, and in addition to hourly pay, interns are offered housing stipends to help mitigate the high cost of living in Colorado. Internships are available across the state and range widely in their primary work responsibilities, including but not limited to forest monitoring, timber cruising, GIS applications, nursery operations, environmental education, community outreach, wildfire mitigation, watershed protection, and collaborative projects with external local and federal partners.
