Position Summary: This is a new resident-instruction/ on-campus tenure-track faculty position to support the department’s teaching, research, and outreach.  Workload will be distributed as 50% teaching/advising, 40% research and 10% service/outreach.

The Human Dimensions of Natural Resources Department is a social science unit with expertise in a number of disciplines working to address a diversity of conservation issues around the globe. We are seeking an individual who can complement this expertise through new methodologies, topical focus areas and/or disciplinary training.  Specifically, the individual will to contribute to understanding about society’s capacity to adapt and/or respond to major conservation social science issues and challenges. We are seeking an individual with expertise to address this topic via their respective social science training and perspective.

The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain an ambitious research program that is strong in its potential for application to conservation issues, and integrates contemporary methods and/or topics. In addition, the successful candidate will value a role in preparing students for conservation work and research, including teaching 3-4 classes annually.

Required job qualifications:

  • An earned Ph.D. by the anticipated start date of August 13, 2018, related to the description above
  • Commitment to teaching excellence and positive student engagement in the department’s undergraduate and/or graduate teaching program
  • Demonstrated potential to sustain an excellent social science publication record
  • Demonstrated potential to develop and sustain an external research funding program
  • Experience engaging with conservation practitioners and agency partners


Preferred job qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching and/or mentoring students
  • Track record of publishing in peer-reviewed publication
  • Track record of participating in development of external funding proposals
  • Potential to establish partnerships with conservation initiatives and/or land management agencies and organizations
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion within conservation-related disciplines (e.g., work groups, committees, relevant publications)
