As a Watershed Coordinator with the Coal Creek Canyon Watershed Partnership, David leads flood-related watershed restoration efforts in the watershed while coordinating other watershed health projects such as wildfire mitigation, water quality, wildlife habitat, ecosystem connectivity and riparian stability.

What led you to a natural resources education/career?

A love of the outdoors and an internship during my undergraduate years working for the Forest Service in Montana.

What do you identify as your 'big break?' Did CSU have anything to do with it?

CSU's natural resources programs have a great reputation, so that definitely contributed to my resume.

What are you up to now in your job? Any noteworthy projects to discuss?

Our nonprofit is on track to complete nearly $4 million in stream restoration and infrastructure projects to help this community become more resilient to future flood events.

Can you reflect on your time and experiences at CSU and how it benefited you?

The Masters program I completed at CSU helped prepare me to succeed in this field. The combination of top-notch teaching and relevant content along with opportunities to lead research projects gave me excellent experience in the types of challenges I face in my current job.

What advice do you have for current students or recent grads?

Get involved in summer programs and research opportunities in the fields you are interested in. It's a great way to meet contacts and figure out what jobs you will enjoy.
