These posted notes (as PDF files) from 1998 are not in themselves full, coherent "lectures". Rather, these are just the notes I prepared for myself, and usually handed out. Some graphics are not included here. Also, these notes were not intended as full stand-alone material. In the lecture I was also displaying other material and putting material on the board. Also, the students usually had assigned readings prior to class. I assumed they read this material before class. I cannot put most such material on the web, as it is from copyrighted papers, books, etc. I recognize these shortcomings of posting these "naked" notes, but decided to do it because potential FW551 students might derive some benefit by seeing them.
In Fall 2000 I will again teach FW551; it will be very much like it was in 1998, but there will be changes. Revised notes for Fall 2000 will become available just before each lecture. The potential student can get a reliable feel for the class by examination of the course material posted from past years.
