Transients

Pradel et al. (1997) used age-structured PIMs to generate estimates of resident animals in the presence of transients in the population.  The trick is to model the first survival interval for each newly captured animal with a different survival rate from suceeding survival rates.  However, the user has to compute estimates of tau from the estimates of phi provided using the equaitons provided by Pradel et al. (1997) in their Table 1.  The following PIM does this for the Lazuli Bunting example provided in Pradel et al. (1997) for the tau(t) phi(t) model:
   7 1 2 3 4 5 6
    8 2 3 4 5 6
     9 3 4 5 6
    10 4 5 6
     11 5 6
      12 6
       13

The following PIM will generate model {tau(.) phi(t)}:
