Maximum Age
The maximum age sets the number of age classes in an Age Matrix for parameters that are age-specific. Thus, in the following age matrix, 5 age classes are present:

while the following age matrix only uses 2 age classes.

A Constant Matrix can be thought of as only having a single age class, i.e., all ages have the same parameter value.
