Geophysics and Geodynamics Research at

Colorado State University

Current and recent work conducted by Dr. Dennis Harry's research group

What We Do

The Geophysics and Geodynamics (G&G) Research Group at Colorado State University is dedicated to research into conservation and utilization of the Earth's natural resources. This requires understanding of Earth structure and the tectonic processes that control formation of sedimentary basins and associated magmatic and fluid flow within the Earth's crust. The G&G group specializes in using Applied Geophysical techniques such as seismic, gravity, magnetic, electrical resistivity, and ground penetrating radar methods to address these problems, and in the use of geodynamic modeling to understand the relevant processes. Research conducted in the G&G group is directed toward Petroleum Geology and Geophysics (PG&G), tectonic studies at the continental and regional scale, and groundwater conservation, remediation, and monitoring.

Former Students

The G&G Research Group is very successful in positioning graduates for their future careers. All G&G graduates have found careers in the Petroleum Industry, with environmental firms, or have pursued Ph.D. degrees elsewhere in preparation for academic or research careers. Graduates of the G&G Research Group include:

·         Jerry Bowling (M.S., 1999; Ph.D., 2005). Geophysicist, bp Exploration Co.

·         Paul Kline (M.S., 2001). Geophysicist, Kerr McGee, Inc.

·         John Londono (M.S., 2001). Geophysicist, Shell Exploration & Production Co.

·         Carrie Maher (M.S. 2002). Geophysicist, ConocoPhillips Petroleum Co.

·         Paul Pearce (M.S. 2002). Geophysicist, Anadarko Petroleum Co.

·         Mr. John Koster (M.S., 2006). Geophysicist, Chevron Co.

·         Scott Salamoff (M.S., 2006). Geophysicist, Chevron Co.

·         Carter Gehman (M.S., 2006). Geophysicist, Hess Corp.
