Conference Objectives

  • Develop a forum for exchange of innovations, concepts, experiences, and research in human dimensions of fisheries and wildlife.
  • Add clarity to what is involved in the scope of “the human dimensions of fisheries and wildlife management.”
  • Facilitate the transfer of HD concepts, research, methods, and best practices to the management community and non-HD scientists with the purpose of improving wildlife decision-making.
  • Showcase examples that highlight the integration of biological and social sciences in wildlife decision-making.
  • Explicitly address the potential of the art and science of human dimensions in all areas of management including policy formation, program development, agency administrative need, and information and education.
  • Promote a view that the human dimensions sciences, and the management practices that actively address the human component, are a critical component of wildlife management.
  • Invite the involvement of stakeholders with advocacy views in discussions of ways to improve wildlife decision-making.
  • Identify means of improving the quality of academic programs that lead to the integration of a human dimensions and biological sciences perspective.
  • Provide a stimulating and diverse opportunity that attracts new professionals to the human dimensions area.
  • Promote a view that HD is not separate for wildlife management for agencies and NGOs.
  • Provide a global perspective on the importance of human dimensions in fish and wildlife management.
