FRWS Graduate Degrees
The Department of Forest, Rangeland, & Watershed Stewardship has graduate degree programs in Forest Sciences, Rangeland Ecosystem Science, and Watershed Science.
For information on how to apply see the Future FRWS Students page.
General Graduate Degree Information
The Department offers both master's and doctoral programs.
Graduate Forestry Degrees
The forestry program provides high quality education in forestry and related disciplines; develops knowledge through scholarly endeavors; and disseminates information to the profession, the public, and the community through service and outreach. This focus on forestry extends into the broader arena of natural resources and environmental sciences through collaboration across the college and university.
Graduate Rangeland Ecology Degrees
The rangeland ecosystem science program emphasizes interdisciplinary study of, and research on, the world's rangelands. Both the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees emphasize education and training in land resource management, research, and teaching. Graduate programs require that students develop a thorough knowledge of the structure, function, and management of rangeland ecosystems.
Students may pursue broad courses of study (such as systems ecology and natural resource administration) or studies in the specialized range fields listed below.
Fields of Study for M.S. and Ph.D. Degrees
- soil-plant relations
- biometry
- nutrition
- ecophysiology
- autecology
- synecology
- riparian ecology
- riparian management
- grazing management
- weed management
- restoration ecology
- community based resource management
- global change
Master of Science: Distance Learning
The department also offers a distance Master of Science degree in Rangeland Ecosystem Science. This program, a conservation-oriented master's degree focusing on rangeland management, serves professionals who have undergraduate degrees in other natural resource or biological science areas and who want advanced training in natural resource management concepts and procedures. Information for this degree program and an on-line application for Graduate School can be found on the web site for the Division of Continuing Education
. On the second page of the application (under description of teaching, research...), please indicate whether you are applying for the Plan A or Plan B Distance Option.
Graduate Watershed Science Degrees
**The Watershed Science Program at CSU will be celebrated its 50th Anniversary in March 2008. Click here to learn more about the history of the program and about the celebration.
Watershed Science is the interdisciplinary study of the physical, chemical, and biological factors that affect the quantity, quality, and flux of water. Such hydrologic changes have important implications for other natural resources that depend on water. The Watershed Science Program at Colorado State University has long been recognized as the premier program in the world.
