Assignment #2 - Music Review
initial submission: due October 9th, returned October 19th (5 marks)
final submission: due December 9th(15 marks)
PURPOSE:
- compare and contrast two CDs/records/tapes/albums, hereinafter called albums, from artists within the same music genre but from different cultures
- the albums are the starting point for this assignment to define location. The last section refers to the music and this is where you can be most creative.
The first two issues sections deal with the geography of the two artists' countries
- what is meant by genre? There are many definitions and many groups/musicians are classified in more than one genre.
Therefore, you need to use your best judgement to find two artists in the same genre. You will not be held to a specific genre convention
- the internet is a great resource. However, I recommend that you do not break copyright laws in obtaining music.
INITIAL SUBMISSION: due October 9th, returned October 19th
- artists, albums, genre, cultures
- 1 paragraph, ½ page maximum
FINAL SUBMISSION: due December 9th
- 2 pages maximum
- use proper referencing, including references to the albums, and to other sources of information
- aside from the album references, 3 other references are required (the textbook is acceptable for one)
- describe the geography of the home countries (5 marks)
- briefly outline physical and cultural/human aspects (facts about each country)
- how and why are they different (5 marks)
- compare/contrast the physical and cultural/human aspects
- how has the culture influenced the music (5 marks)
- this can be a generalization regarding the music itself. Be creative but retain a basis of fact for your comments.
