Channel Morphology of Glaciated Unconfined Channels
(Information Compiled by A. Bryden)
These channels are in glacially formed U-shaped valleys of sufficient width that channels are largely disconnected from hillslope processes. Sediment supply exceeds the transport capacity of channel forming flows, resulting in alluvial bedforms. This morphology is characterized by a low-gradient meandering alluvial channel and a migrating planform.
In an unconfined glaciated valley, channel morphology is typically pool-riffle. The channel may also develop step-pool formation in response to organization of large clasts and/or woody debris.
