Channel Morphology of Ephemeral Channel

(Information compiled by A. Bryden)

Ephemeral channels are transient or seasonal headwater channels near or below 2,300 m in elevation. Flow through hillslope soils and colluvial valley fill concentrate to form these seasonal channels, which have varying fluvial transport competency.

Channel development is dependant upon the duration and magnitude of flows and the available sediment load in ephemeral channels. Channel types that can develop range from bedrock to pool-riffle, with cascade and step-pool channels being more common.
