Macroinvertebrates - Unglaciated Confined

The steeper gradient stream segments of coarser substrate and greater shading found in unglaciated confined reaches are likely to support less diverse populations of macroinvertebrates than unconfined reaches, although members of all functional groups may be present, with different types of organisms inhabiting different microhabitat units (e.g., rapids vs channel margins) on the streambed.
Vertebrates - Unglaciated Confined
Based on the elevation distributions below, we assume that species are present in any perennial flow process domain within their respective elevation range. Because of the steeper gradients, swift flow, coarse substrate, and lesser pool volumes, fish habitat may be less abundant and diverse in confined than in unconfined or partially confined reaches, but confined reaches will certainly support fish.
